The School of Public Administration currently offers three primary disciplines: Public Administration, Sociology, and Political Science. It has one provincial key discipline—Public Administration, and one provincial key research base in humanities and social sciences—the Center for Population, Society, and Legal Studies. Additionally, it co-establishes the "Research Center for Theoretical Studies of the People's Political Consultative Conference" with the Guizhou Provincial Political Consultative Conference, the "Guizhou Province Volunteer Service Cultural Research Center" with the Publicity Department of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, and the "Guizhou University Center for Government Affairs Research" with the General Office of the Guizhou Provincial Government.
The school offers a doctoral degree program in Social Work and master’s degree programs in Public Administration, Sociology, and Political Science, along with professional master’s degrees in Public Administration (MPA) and Social Work (MSW). The Public Administration discipline includes four research areas: Administrative Management, Social Security, Public Policy, and Land Resource Management. Sociology comprises Sociology, Demography, and Anthropology, while Political Science includes Political Theory, National Governance, and Comparative Politics. The school offers four undergraduate programs: Administrative Management, Labor and Social Security, Political Science and Administration, and Social Work, granting degrees in Management and Law. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, the Administrative Management, Social Work, and Political Science and Administration programs were recognized as national first-class undergraduate programs. The school has formed a talent cultivation system for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.
Currently, the school has 64 faculty members, including 17 professors and 35 associate professors. Among them are one national candidate for the "Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project," one young expert with outstanding national contributions, two national cultural figures and "Four Batches" talents, one New Century Excellent Talent from the Ministry of Education, two members of the Sociology Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, one member of the national MSW education advisory committee, two experts with special government allowances, one national outstanding science and technology worker, two core provincial experts, and four provincial experts. The school has three "Golden Teachers" from ordinary undergraduate colleges in Guizhou.
The school has established stable academic research and talent cultivation partnerships with well-known universities, various levels of party and government agencies, and enterprises, with nearly 40% of undergraduates continuing their studies. According to incomplete statistics, since its establishment, the Administrative Management program has trained over 60 department-level officials, more than 2,000 bureau-level officials, and several corporate executives.
In the past five years, the school has secured two major projects, three key projects, 23 general projects from the National Social Science Fund, and four projects from the National Natural Science Fund; it has also completed 46 provincial and ministerial projects. It has published 184 articles in core Chinese journals, including 164 in CSSCI journals, and authored 34 monographs. The school has participated in over 50 decision-making consultations for local governments, with ten reports receiving affirmative feedback from provincial and ministerial leaders. In the last three years, it has received a total of 12 awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences from Guizhou Province.
The school encourages students to participate in disciplinary competitions to enhance their learning. In 2023, it won one third prize in the 16th National College Student Computer Design Competition; one first prize in the provincial selection of the 13th National College Student E-commerce "Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship" Challenge; and 15 provincial awards in the 18th "Challenge Cup" national competition, including one first prize in the national finals. In the ninth "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition at Guizhou University, it won ten awards.
The School of Public Administration has grown into the most important base for cultivating public management and social science talents in Guizhou Province and a cradle for future leaders in public service and social management. The school will uphold the motto of "Cultivating Virtue and Pursuing Excellence, Broad Learning and Diligent Practice," striving to cultivate high-level public management talents and to build a first-class public administration school in the western region that is competitive nationally.
